Get Ahead in the Cloud

A working definition of Cloud Computing could be - Using someone else’s software on someone else’s hardware, in someone else’s datacentre and only paying for what you use.

The convergence of Server Virtualisation, Utility Computing and Software as a Service has made possible a revolution in the way that we can consume IT.

The traditional approach is like buying a car. You pay up front, you get all the features whether you need them or not, you have to insure, maintain and fuel it and you had best join the AA too. Apart from capital cost benefits renting or leasing is much the same but consider the benefits of using a Taxi.

You don’t buy the car, employ the driver, need somewhere to park it, put fuel in or insure it. The taxi company is responsible for any breakdowns AND you only pay when you use it.

Cloud computing is most like the Taxi approach, i.e. using someone else’s software on someone else’s hardware, in someone else’s datacentre and only paying for what you use

Why buy the cow when you only want a glass of milk?

Cloud computing is game changing, it’s enterprise grade, it’s geo-redundant, it’s green and by using it smaller business can trump big business because the exact same technology is available to both at the exact same low monthly cost.

It will scale from 1 to 100,000 and back. It requires no capital investment and it’s available now
