DCL’s requirement was to enhance line-of-business software, at the
same time replace core elements of their existing technology infrastructure to
support the extended functionality. Commercially DCL needed to implement EDI,
produce reports compliant with FSA guidelines, and reduce business exposure to
the risk of system failure. Increased sales activity away from the office was
causing problems in accessing up to date client information and generating
real-time accurate quotations. In short, DCL required a solution that would
help them retain their market position for the next 5 years.
AIS developed extended application functionality and implemented a
network infrastructure based around Microsoft Small Business Server 2003,
providing a complete business server solution with messaging, collaboration and
protected data storage. The security enhanced Internet access within SBS 2003
would facilitate secure EDI capability and the reliable ability to run
line-of-business applications would enable compliance with FSA guidelines.
Remote access to the system would allow sales personnel to access up
to date client policy information and generate accurate quotations, vastly
improving the effectiveness of mobile sales. The volume shadow copy service and
point-in-time backup facility and the overall strength of the infrastructure
gave DCL peace of mind in terms of business continuity and governance.
Additionally, the end-to-end administration features and monitoring tools of
SBS 2003, accessed remotely by AIS, would enable AIS to maintain the networks
performance and security.
